DAY 1 | Start Travel

Your Med Experience adventure begins! Meet your Tour Manager in front of Church of St. Frane in Split at 7.00am before you hit the road. This morning you’ll get to know your fellow travellers and understand your itinerary en-route to your first stop; Dubrovnik! It will be hard not to take in the stunning scenery along the Adriatic Coast, with glimpses of azure water and historical old towns around every corner.

DAY 1 | Highlight

Our first stop this morning is Croatia’s most famous seaside city, Dubrovnik. Affectionately nicknamed the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, this medieval city boasts impressive architecture, a historically rich past and was also used as the set of ‘Kings Landing’ in Game of Thrones! Get lost in the impressive Old Town surrounded by its incredible city wall and grab a drink at the famous Buza Bar, a cliff bar with the most impressive views out over the sea. You’ll have time to enjoy lunch in the cobblestoned alleyways before getting back on the bus and heading towards Montenegro!

DAY 1 | Overnight Stay party

The seaside town of Budva is framed by the Adriatic Sea to one side and a brooding mountain range to the other. Famous for its beauty and well-preserved architecture, this destination is also the party capital of Montenegro, filled with some of the best bars and nightclubs the country has to offer! Tonight we’ll discover what this medieval town is all about as we experience local cuisine and check out the nightlife!

DAY 2 | Overnight Stay party

Today you are free to explore the beauty of Budva. Being over 2,500 years old, Budva takes the crown as one of the oldest settlements along the Adriatic Coast. Spend the morning strolling through the Old Town, indulging in local cuisine, or lazing on some of the most attractive beaches in the Southern Adriatic. If you’d rather be a little more active today, why not visit the nearby picturesque town of Kotor and climb to the top of Kotor’s castle of San Giovanni for breath-taking views. Tonight we’ll hit the town and explore the nightlife of Budva.

DAY 3 | Overnight Stay party

Today we make our way towards Albania and discover firsthand the effects of the prominent communist era with insights into Albania's abundant history. Tonight will be spent in Albania’s lively capital city, Tirana. Recognised as one of Europe’s quirkiest cities, it doesn’t take long to discover why this city is the heart and soul of Albania. Join fellow travellers on the Athens to Split route for a pub crawl through some of the most eclectic & interesting lounge bars you’ll find in Europe. The cheap food and drink prices will ensure your evening goes on well into the night as you explore the undiscovered city of Tirana.

DAY 4 | Overnight Stay party

It is time to feast your eyes on the Albanian Coast, a place the New York Times named as the number 4 place to visit in 2014. Catch glimpses of Ottoman-era villages and coastal scenery along the way, before arriving to Himare, our next overnight destination. Himare is a coastal town located on the Albania Riviera offering unique opportunities to dive into turquoise waters & enjoy cocktails on the beach!

Acheron Springs
DAY 5 | Highlight

Before arriving to Kalambaka, we will stop at Acheron River to enjoy its swirling transparent ice blue water surrounded with pale sandy beaches and green slopes. We'll also learn about myths connected to this magnificent place as Acheron was known as the most important river of the Greek underworld, travelled by the souls of the deceased to reach the other world. Today, the river represents an exhilarating spot for hiking, wading and swimming through the gorge.

DAY 5 | Overnight Stay party

We leave Albania behind as we head towards the Greek border. We will stop at Acheron Spring to have a lunch and refresh ourselves in the cold waters of the Acheron River. Apart from its natural beauty, Acheron Spring is known worldwide for its mythological contents as it was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld. We will stop for a coffee break before returning for the night in the quaint village of Kalambaka.

DAY 6 | Finish Travel

Appreciate the stunning scenery Kalambaka offers as the six monasteries of ancient Meteora tower above you. Enjoy one of the hundreds of beautiful viewpoints which the cliff-top monasteries offer*. You'll feel as though you've been transported back to prehistoric ages in this truly spectacular setting. We will leave Meteora behind and head towards our last destination, Athens.

How to book:

Simply mention ‘Twin Room Upgrade’ in the Additional Information section of your enquiry and our reservations team will look into availability for you.

It can be very difficult to get between Greece and Croatia and vice versa, as flights are irregular and expensive and trains and ferries are long and often confusing to organise! We like to make travelling easy so we created this road trip to get you from one place to another and see the beauty of these often missed sights in between! The road trip can also be cheaper than some direct flights!

We're a small, family-owned company that utilises small locally run accommodation providers in which we have positive relationships with to avoid the need for large profit margins. Additionally, we do not provide commission to travel agents, enabling us to keep our prices as low as possible.

You will need a few different currencies, but this adds to the fun and makes it that bit cheaper for you as well! You will need Croatian Kuna (Croatia), Euros (Montenegro and Greece) and Albanian Leks (Albania). There are plenty of cash machines located in the various cities as well as exchange offices so you can change your money quite easily.

Check in for the Split to Athens tour is 7:00am promptly from in front of Church of St. Frane. Directions to your exact location will be noted in an email you receive prior to your departure.

The Split to Athens tour is scheduled to arrive at the Exarchion Hotel at 7pm. Since traffic can be unpredictable, we advise you not to book onward travel from Athens on the last evening of this tour. The final night in Athens is not included, we advise you to book your own accommodation in advance.

You'll need to catch up with the group via public transport. We'll provide the phone number for your Tour Manager, so give them a ring and start making your way to the first stop of the tour, Dubrovnik. Please note that due to customs regulations, you will need to join your fellow travellers before crossing the borders with Montenegro on the first day of the tour.

We stay in 2 and 3 star hotel and hostels throughout the trip in shared, mix dormitory-style rooms with air conditioning.

Yes we are. Sail Croatia Adventures Ltd owns and operates Med Experience. Sail Croatia has been operating since 2003 and today is one of the biggest and most respected tour operators in Europe.

There is a vast amount of distance to cover in the 6 days, however in each place we stop you will have some free time and each night is always free for you to do as you please. Driving can range between 4-6 hours per day and usually broken up with frequent breaks. Please note border crossings can be time consuming.

The Athens to Split Road Trip attracts an age range of between 18 and 35 years old. All guests must be 18 at the commencement of the tour.

The Croatia & Greece Road Trip travels through Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece. If you hold a British, US, Canadian, European, Australian or New Zealand passport, then you will not require a visa to enter Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece. If you are a permanent resident of any other country, including South Africa, you are required to obtain a visa before departing to Croatia. Citizens from South Africa require visas for all of the countries covered by Med Experience, including a Schengen visa for Greece and Croatia.

Visa HQ also has detailed information about visa requirements. It is up to you to ensure that you have all required travel and visa documents for your trip.

Our top recommendation is to hop on our Greek Island Hopping Tour, which departs from Athens! However if you're looking to spend more time in Athens, we recommend the Exarchion Hotel.

We keep our tour groups to a maximum of 19 people per bus to ensure a unique, authentic experience.
